Giving up my corner seat chat ban opened my world
I had a rule to never talk to anyone at my usual espresso spot (sounds rude, I know). Then one day I just started asking the person next to me what they were drinking. Since then, I've gotten job tips, heard crazy travel stories, and even found a hiking buddy (all from simple chats). Sitting in silence feels like a wasted chance now, if you ask me.

My friend used to keep quiet on her morning train rides. She struck up a conversation about a book and now they meet for coffee every week.

Baker Street station always has someone reading on the benches. I saw a guy with a Pratchett book last Tuesday and asked which one. Turned out he worked in the same office block as my dentist. We ended up talking about adaptations for twenty minutes while waiting for the Circle line.

Wait, did your friend really go from a train chat to weekly coffee? @fionabutler, that blows my mind because most folks just smile and look at their phones after a quick talk. Turning a random book talk into regular meetups is a huge leap. I always figured those conversations end when the train stops. How did they even get from "nice book" to swapping numbers and planning coffee? Does your friend find it easy to keep the friendship going now?
