Just hit my 500th coffee shop visit logged on my app, and honestly, I think the 'third place' magic is gone when you're just chasing a number.
I used to love the slow, aimless hours in a corner booth, but now I feel pressure to 'check in' and photograph my drink, turning a personal refuge into a public scoreboard. Has anyone else felt a coffee shop lose its charm after tracking it like a game?

Oh man, I know that feeling exactly. I had to delete that kind of app for the same reason. It stopped being about the coffee and the quiet time and just became another task. My advice is to try leaving your phone in your pocket for your next few visits. Just go, order your drink, and sit. Don't log it, don't take a picture. It feels weird at first, but you slowly get that old feeling back. The point is the break itself, not the record of it.

Remember when people used to just have hobbies for fun? My uncle used to build these huge model train sets in his basement. He'd spend hours on it, but he never posted a single picture online. He just did it because he liked it. Tbh I feel like we've lost a bit of that. Everything now needs to be shared or tracked to feel real, and it kinda ruins the simple joy of just doing something.

Totally. You start chasing the perfect photo instead of the perfect moment. Next thing you know you're rearranging your cup three times for the light. Or you're stressing over your streak if you skip a day. It turns a simple treat into a chore. The app should work for you, not the other way around.
