Just realized the corner booth at Cafe Luna in Denver went from empty to packed in 6 weeks
I started going to Cafe Luna on 13th six months ago and the corner booth by the window was always open. Then about 6 weeks back a guy named Dennis started holding a chess meetup there every Tuesday and Thursday. Now you can't get that booth unless you show up by 8am, and last Tuesday I counted 14 people waiting for a seat. Has anyone seen a coffee shop change this fast from one regular showing up?
I read a thing about a diner in Portland where one guy started doing crossword mornings and within two months it turned into a whole scene with a wait list. Same pattern as your Dennis. One person picks a spot at a set time, other people see it happening, and pretty soon the regulars who liked the quiet are pushed out. By week six the place has a new identity and the original crowd just stops coming. Cafe Luna is basically Dennis's coffee shop now, you just still drink there.
