My coffee shop pen swap disaster

For years I always grabbed the same cheap ballpoint from the jar by the register, but last Tuesday I accidentally picked up a fountain pen someone left behind and tried to write my order on a napkin with it. Ink went everywhere, I looked like I was trying to start a fight with my latte, and the barista had to bring me wet paper towels. Anyone else ever grab the wrong pen and make a total mess of their coffee note?

That sounds like a rough morning. I've definitely done something similar where I grabbed a marker off the counter thinking it was a pen and ended up with a fuzzy black line across my hand and the napkin. The worst part is when the ink smears all over your palm and then you touch your face without thinking. Wet paper towels are about the only way to fix it, but it always takes longer than you'd expect. Hope your coffee was at least good enough to make up for the mess.

I mean is it really that big of a deal though? You grab a marker instead of a pen, big whoop. It's just ink, it's not like you set the napkin on fire or something. I've done the same thing a bunch of times and I just shrug it off, maybe wipe my hand on my jeans if it's bad. People act like a little smudge is the end of the world but it's really not that serious. Coffee probably still tasted fine and the marker line fades after a day anyway.
