Spent $9 on a pour-over at a joint in Portland and walked out with a job offer

I was killing time between interviews at this tiny shop called Coava, and the barista noticed my leather notebook. Turns out she was a graphic designer too, and she passed my name to her friend who owns a studio. Has anyone else had a random coffee shop encounter that actually changed something?

Spending $9 on coffee and getting a job feels like winning the lottery on the way to buy a ticket. Sure beats my usual coffee shop luck, which is just getting a burnt latte and a dirty look. Maybe I need to start carrying a fancier notebook around.
