Watching the talk fade from my usual coffee spot

In my experience, coffee shops used to be where you'd meet friends and actually talk. I remember ten years ago at the place on Elm Street, people would play board games or argue about books. Now, every table has someone glued to a laptop, and it's dead quiet except for typing. I tried to start a chat with the person next to me last week, and they just pointed at their headphones. It feels like we've lost the chance to connect with strangers. Your mileage may vary, but it makes me miss the old days. Take this with a grain of salt, I guess I'm just getting old.

Did you see that article calling modern cafes "third place deserts"? It really hit home for me. My local spot feels the same, like a library with better smells. I miss the random talks too, but now it's just headphones and screen glare. Makes me wonder if we traded community for convenience.

Actually, I see it kinda different, taylorc40. My local is quiet too, but I think people just want a quiet spot now, and that's okay. It feels less like a loss and more like we all made that choice ourselves. The coffee's still good, and that's enough for me.

Agree with fiona. Prefer the quiet now anyway.
