A comic shop in Tulsa convinced me older fans aren't the problem
I dropped into this little shop called The Longbox on Route 66 last Saturday and noticed a table of guys in their 50s talking about the new Absolute line like they were teenagers. I used to think older fans were stuck in the 80s and just complaining about every reboot, but one of them handed me a copy of a 1982 issue and explained how the pacing influenced the modern stuff. Do other shops have crews like that, or did I just get lucky with the regulars?

Swing by my local shop on Wednesdays and you'll find the same crew, old dudes trading reading lists like baseball cards. One guy got me into a 1970s Phantom Stranger run that still shapes how I look at modern horror comics. It's not about nostalgia, it's about knowing the history so you can spot the callbacks. Sounds like you found a good table, hang onto them.

Admit it, @adamr14, I used to roll my eyes at the old timer gatekeeping in shops. But then a guy at my spot pointed out how a 1975 issue of Ghost Rider basically set up every demon fight in comics today, and now I'm the one bugging people about key issues. You're right, it's a whole map you don't even know you need until someone hands it to you.
