A guy at my local shop in San Antonio said I should bag my comics before boarding them, and he was dead right
This older collector named Ray who runs the counter at Heroes on Bandera told me 3 years ago to always bag and board my single issues before stacking them, and I blew it off because I figured the short boxes were enough. I pulled out 40 issues from 2019 to 2021 yesterday, and the ones I bagged look crisp while the loose ones have dinged corners and scuffed covers. What is your go to method for storing raw issues so this does not keep happening?

Bag and board is just step one. The real killer is how you stack them after. If you lay a short box flat or cram it tight, the weight of 100 books squashes the bottom ones and you get spine rolls even with bags on. Stand your boxes upright and leave some breathing room so they are not packed in like sardines. Also swap out cheap poly bags every few years since they get wavy and can stick to covers. Mylar cost more up front but it lasts forever and won't yellow on you. And keep them out of the garage where heat and wet air do way more damage than any corner ding ever will.
