Chasing down a comic book variant cover took me 3 months longer than it should have
I started hunting for a specific Dave McKean variant cover for Sandman #1 back in September... the one with the different color scheme. Every shop I called said they sold out on release day, and I spent weeks driving to stores in Cleveland and Columbus with no luck. My mistake was only looking at brick and mortar shops and ignoring online marketplaces for the first 2 months. Finally found it on a random seller's thread in a Facebook group for $35 after a guy posted it at 2 AM. Has anyone else wasted way too long hunting down a single issue when the answer was staring you right in the face?

Drove an hour and a half to a shop in Akron last year because their website said they had a sealed copy of Batman: The Killing Joke deluxe edition in stock. Got there, dude said "oh yeah we sold that three weeks ago, the website is never right." Ended up finding a better copy on Ebay for $15 less the same night lol. I swear half the struggle with this hobby is learning which stores actually keep their inventory straight and which ones are just lying to get foot traffic. My rule now is if they don't update their stock daily I just skip the drive and check Reddit or Facebook groups first.
