I keep seeing people mix up the original Secret Wars with the 2015 version
I was at the Portland comic shop last week and heard three different folks refer to the 2015 'Secret Wars' event as the one where Spider-Man got the black suit. That was the 1984 series by Jim Shooter. The 2015 one by Jonathan Hickman is a completely different story about Battleworld. It matters because they're foundational events with very different impacts on Marvel continuity. Has anyone else noticed this mix-up happening more often?

Who cares if they mix them up, they're both just big crossover events anyway?

Disagree, the details matter to people who follow the story. An event like Secret Wars changes the whole universe, while a normal crossover is just a team-up. Getting it right shows respect for the work that goes into them.

Man, my buddy got into a whole thing about this at a con last year. He was talking to someone about Doctor Doom's god phase, and the other guy kept referencing the Beyonder from the old one. My friend had to gently explain that was a different Doom from a different war, and the guy just would not believe him. It was a whole mess that could have been avoided if people just knew there were two separate events.
