Just realized how torn comic fans are over destination cons
Some think flying to big events like NYCC is the peak fan experience, while others say smaller regional cons are more personal and fun. Which side are you on, lol?

Totally get where you're coming from. Those huge cons are fun for the big reveals and crazy energy, but man, they can feel like a cattle call. Honestly have way better memories from the smaller local shows where you can actually chat with artists and not wait in line for three hours. The massive travel and hotel costs for the big ones just kill it for me sometimes. Give me a chill regional con any day.

But three hours? Really? I've waited twice that for a main hall panel.

Haven't you ever found that the energy of a big main hall panel is worth the wait though? I get the frustration with lines, but for me, that three hours is part of the shared experience. I've passed the time by making friends in line or just people-watching, which is its own kind of entertainment. Smaller cons are nice for one-on-one chats, sure, but they just don't have that same electric buzz when a big announcement drops. I'd rather wait and get that collective gasp moment with thousands of other fans than have a chill talk with an artist any day. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Yeah I was all about the huge conventions for years, but @garcia.james you're spot on. I switched to a couple local ones last year and had this amazing, long talk with an artist about their process, something that just never happens in the chaos of the big halls. It completely changed how I see the whole con scene now.
