Sorting my long boxes by artist instead of character was a weird move
I got tired of flipping through 50 issues of Wolverine drawn by different people so I tried reorganizing my long boxes by artist last Saturday. Spent like 3 hours pulling books and grouping them by names like Jim Lee and John Byrne. After I was done I realized I had no idea where any story arc started or ended. Anyone else try a weird filing system and instantly regret it?

Dude that exact thing happened to me a few years back when I tried sorting by publisher and then by cover date. Thought it would be genius for seeing how styles changed over time but ended up with a mess where runs were completely shattered. Gave up after two days and just went back to alphabetical by title like a normal person.

Remember @jasonf17 tried sorting by publisher by year too and ended up in the same mess, so you're not alone there. The problem is that publishers reboot and renumber stuff all the time, so cover dates don't line up with how stories actually flow. Stick with alphabetical by title and just use a spreadsheet for the deep stuff if you really need it.
