Talked to a guy at a con who only reads silver age stuff. Made me rethink my whole pull list.

I was at a small con in Des Moines last weekend and got stuck next to an older guy flipping through a beat up copy of Fantastic Four #48. We started talking and he told me he hasn't bought a comic printed after 1975 in 20 years. Said the story structure back then let him finish a whole arc in one sitting without feeling like he spent $30. I argued that modern books are way more complex and he just laughed. Said complexity isn't the same as good storytelling. Then he showed me how that FF issue had 3 subplots and a character death in 22 pages. I had no comeback. Has anyone else hit a wall with modern pacing or am I just reading the wrong books?

Man that's rough but I totally get it. He's got a point about getting a complete story in one sitting for cheap, makes you wonder what we're actually paying for now.

$4 for that FF issue vs $8 for a modern book that has 8 pages of actual story.

That $8 book still has more story pages than a lot of modern issues actually.
