The Wednesday my comic book group fell apart over a grading dispute

Last Wednesday at my local shop in Denver, two guys almost got into a real fight over whether a Batman #423 was a 9.4 or a 9.6. The guy who owned it kept insisting he had it graded by CGC, but the other dude was pointing at a corner crease under a magnifying glass. The store owner had to step in and told them both to take it outside. Has anyone else had a grading argument get that heated at their LCS?

Magnifying glass at the comic shop? That is wild. I can't believe someone actually pulled out a magnifying glass to argue over a corner crease. That takes the whole grading debate to a crazy level. You would think they were handling a diamond or a rare coin, not a comic book. The store owner probably couldn't believe he had to break up a fight over a 9.4 versus a 9.6. Some people take this stuff way too seriously.

Used to think people were just being picky when they complained about grading. Seeing someone actually bust out a magnifying glass over a corner crease though... that's a whole different level of dedication. Kinda makes me see both sides now though, weirdly enough.

Ray totally gets it now. Saw a guy at a local show last year pull out one of those little pocket microscopes to check for spine ticks on a 90s X-Men book. The seller just stared at him. Store owner had to step in because the guy was taking forever and holding up the line. Made me realize people are genuinely that serious about getting that extra half grade. I used to roll my eyes but now I get why sellers get defensive too.
