Thought I was being helpful recommending my pull list at the shop

Two weeks ago I told a new guy at the counter to grab the first issue of a series I was hyped on. He came back yesterday and said he dropped $80 on back issues because I made it sound like essential reading. Now I just nod and let people figure out their own spending.

Oh man, that's rough. I actually heard someone on a comic podcast talk about this exact thing, how new readers sometimes treat recommendations like homework assignments instead of just fun suggestions. They said it's good to mention that back issues are optional and the story will still make sense. Maybe next time try saying "if you like it, start here, but don't stress over older stuff" so nobody thinks they need to drop a ton of cash.

Oh, recommending a pull list can be tricky since some folks just take it too literally.

Yeah, "take it too literally" is a good way to put it, @faith_thomas lol. Some folks act like a pull list is the law instead of just suggestions, it's wild.
