Took me 7 weeks to figure out why my Long Halloween trade smelled like smoke
So I bought a used copy of Batman: The Long Halloween off a guy in Fresno for $18, and when it showed up the whole thing reeked like campfire. I tried airing it out on the porch for a few days, then stuck dryer sheets in the pages, then even tried sealing it in a bag with baking soda, and nothing worked. Turns out the smell was coming from the cardboard backing board he shipped it with, not the book at all. I swapped the board out and the smell was gone in a day, which felt so dumb after almost two months of fighting it. Anybody else ever chase the wrong thing on a comic fix like that?

The "airing it out on the porch for a few days" part got me, because I did the exact same thing with a beat up copy of Watchmen that smelled like cat pee. Left it outside so long the cover faded and my neighbor asked if I was running a flea market, and it turned out the funk was in the box it shipped in. Seven weeks is rough but at least you didn't sun bleach yours in the process.
