Vent: dropped $120 on a graded comic mystery box at a con in Omaha
Got 4 slabs and every single one was a filler issue I could've grabbed from a dollar bin, so that's about $30 per book for stuff nobody wants. Anyone else get burned by these booth gimmicks or did I just pick the worst table in the hall?
Bought a mystery box at a con myself last year and it worked out great, so you might have just picked a bad table. Half the fun is the gamble and the surprise of not knowing what slab you'll pull, and some booths actually load them up with keys and decent stuff. Four filler issues hurts, no question, but that's the risk you sign up for when you hand over cash for a sealed box. Next time check the booth's rep first or ask sellers what kind of books they put in, since the good tables will tell you straight. Writing off the whole gimmick after one bad pull seems harsh when plenty of people walk away happy.
