A deckhand in Galveston told me something that still messes with my head

We were rigging for a hull clean on a shrimp boat, water was about 15 feet deep and murky. He looked at my gear and said, 'You know, the bottom isn't the scariest part. It's the trip back up when you can't see the surface yet.' We were just standing on the dock, sun beating down. That simple line changed how I feel during every ascent now, especially in low vis. Anyone else have a random comment from a job site that just stuck with you?

Sounds like he just made the whole thing up.

Totally, and it's not even a good lie. The details don't line up at all when you check the facts. It falls apart with just a little digging. Why even try a story that's so easy to prove wrong? Feels like they thought nobody would bother to look.

Wait, "15 feet deep and murky"? That's barely over your head. You can practically stand up in that.
