Bought a cheap underwater light for a salvage job and it flooded in 15 minutes
Spent $350 on a 'pro-grade' light from some online store. First dive on a bridge piling job in Mobile, it worked for maybe 15 minutes before the housing flooded and died. My partner says you should always pay for the certified gear, but I figured for a simple light, how bad could it be? Lost the light and half a day's pay waiting on a replacement. Anyone have a go-to brand for lights that won't fail on the first dunk?

Yeah, "water finds the weak spot" is why I check the o-ring grease date now. A dry seal is just as bad as a cheap one.

My hardware store special lasted five years.

Man that line about "how bad could it be" hits home. I used to grab the cheap stuff for side jobs, figured a light was a light. Then I had a $30 one from a hardware store literally start smoking in my hand on a crawl space check. Not underwater, but it was the same lesson. Water finds the weak spot every single time. Now I just save up for the one with the real pressure rating, even if it stings to pay.
