Hand signal for 'low on air' finally clicked after 8 years
Was on a job in Port Angeles last month. New tender kept misreading my signs. We had a miscommunication about my remaining PSI. Almost surfaced early on a hull inspection for nothing.
Turns out he was taught the old 'throat cut' sign. I use the flat hand tap on the head. Different schools, same trade. We spent 10 minutes sorting it out at the surface.
Now I always ask my tender which signal set they learned before we go under. Keeps things smooth.
Anyone else run into signal mismatches on multi-company crews?
