Heard a safety officer say 80% of diving accidents happen in less than 30 feet of water

Was at a toolbox talk last week and the safety guy dropped that stat. Made me think twice about getting sloppy on shallow bell runs. Anyone else pay more attention to the shallow stuff now?

I've heard that stat before and honestly @annaw73's car accident comparison is pretty on point, it's the same psychological trick where you get lazy when things feel routine. But I gotta call bull a little bit - how are they defining "accidents" and are we talking near misses or actual hospital trips?

64% of my car accidents happened within a mile of my house, same kind of thing. You let your guard down when it feels familiar and safe.

That stat is wild but totally believable. Same thing happens to me with my cat - he's the sweetest thing ever in the house, but the second I let him out back without watching, that's when he finds a way to get into a fight with the neighbor's dog. Familiarity really does make you sloppy. Hope you weren't hurt too bad in those accidents.
