I finally listened to my first dive boss in Mobile about checking my own gear

He told me 'trust your hands, not the tender's word' after a bad air check, and that saved me from a real scare on a deep hull clean last month when I found a worn o-ring they missed.

Honestly, it's about building a personal routine. That habit of checking for yourself becomes automatic muscle memory, which is way safer than relying on a memory of someone else's check. Your own hands are the last line of defense.

Common sense until you're the one holding the leaky gear. My hands have caught stuff I would've sworn was fine just looking at it. That little voice saying "check it again" is cheaper than a hospital trip.

Trust your hands" seems like common sense to me.
