I was sure my old dive light was fine until a job in Puget Sound

I was working a night dive on a pier inspection near Tacoma and my trusty old 1000 lumen light just couldn't cut through the murk. A buddy lent me his 4000 lumen Light Monkey, and the difference was night and day, I could actually see the piling footings clearly. I always thought more power was just for show, but it made the whole job safer and faster. Anyone have a go-to light for really dark, silty water?

Ever try diving in a quarry at night?

Nope, never done a night quarry dive, but I did go swimming in a flooded gravel pit once during the day. The water was so cold it felt like my ribs were cracking, and the bottom was just thick, weird mud. Honestly, @the_anthony, that experience alone made me decide to stick to pools or the ocean. The idea of doing it in the dark with even less visibility sounds like a special kind of nope to me.

Oh man, the only quarry I'm diving into at night is a bag of chips. I get spooked trying to find the bathroom light switch in the dark. I can't imagine feeling my way through cold, murky water with who-knows-what down there. My sense of direction is bad enough in a well-lit parking lot. Doing that in pitch black water sounds like a perfect way to become a local ghost story. What even makes you want to try it?
