Lost $250 on a so-called 'hot water' drysuit valve kit

Bought a used valve kit from a guy on Craigslist in Seattle that was supposedly tested and working fine for hot water suits. Got it out on a job near the Ballard locks and the inlet valve seized up on my second dive, totally wasted the day and the rental fee for a backup suit. Anyone had luck rebuilding these Urga 3000 series valves or should I just buy new from a shop next time?

Never trust a Craigslist valve from Seattle, learned that one myself.

so you gotta check the serial numbers before you even think about handing over cash. a lot of those Seattle valves come from old buildings being gutted and they look fine on the outside but the internal seals are shot or the threads are stripped from being taken apart with a pipe wrench instead of the right tool. I always bring a small flashlight and a mirror to look inside the valve body for any cracks or wear you can't see from the side. also if they ask for cash only and meet you in a parking lot that's your first red flag right there.

Did you check the thread pitch before you bought it, or just assume it was standard?
