Showerthought: I've been cleaning my dive helmet wrong for three years
I always used a soft brush and fresh water, but the visor kept fogging up on deep dives. Last week in the Gulf, my tender saw me and said, 'You know you're supposed to use baby shampoo on the inside, right?' He showed me his bottle of Johnson's. I tried it yesterday on a 90-foot job and had zero fog for the whole four-hour shift. What other simple tricks have I been missing out on?

Realize we often overcomplicate things by ignoring simple solutions.

So you're using baby shampoo on the inside of the visor, but what about the outside for salt residue? I've seen guys use a vinegar-water mix on the dome to stop that white crust from building up, especially after working in the Gulf. Do you do any special wipe down between dives, or is it just a fresh water rinse?

That vinegar mix works great for salt crust, but honestly a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth right after the fresh water rinse does most of the work for me. It keeps the outside clean without needing extra sprays most days. Emma_dixon70 has a point about simple solutions, so I only break out the vinegar for a deep clean after a week in really bad water. What's your go-to cloth for wiping gear down?
