That $900 Kirby vacuum cleaner job I walked into still makes me laugh
Ngl, I was super skeptical when a homeowner called me out to fix a leak under their sink and tried to sell me on their whole water softening setup for $900. Said it would save my gear from scale buildup and make my hoses last longer. I told him straight up I've been diving for 12 years and never had scale ruin a thing, but he swore by it. Has anyone else had a client try to upsell you on something totally unrelated to your actual job?

Jumped into a call last month where the homeowner tried to sell me on a $1,200 air purifier while I was replacing a stuck garbage disposal. Said it would filter out all the dust from my tools and keep my lungs clean. I've never had dust ruin my lungs in 15 years of plumbing, but he was dead serious about it. Like, do these guys just sit around waiting for a service tech to show up so they can launch into their sales pitch? I swear it's the same energy as that guy who tried to sell me on his $500 water filter while I was fixing his toilet flapper.

I had a guy last year try to sell me on some $800 blender while I was pulling apart his kitchen sink's P-trap. He went on about how it breaks down fiber in fruits or whatever, and I'm standing there with drain sludge on my jeans. It's wild how some people just see a uniform and think you're their captive audience for a sales pitch. I couldn't even focus on the pipe with him talking about "micron levels" and "oxidation." Like man, I've been doing this since before you bought this house, and I don't need a gadget to tell me if my air is clean. You gotta wonder if they practice these speeches for when the cable guy shows up too.

Oh honey, that air purifier was probably $1,200 retail but they get them for like $300 at wholesale... I've had customers try that with me too.
