Warning: choosing between a drysuit and a wetsuit for a month of shallow harbor work went sideways
Last spring I took a gig doing hull inspections in the harbor at Duluth, water was holding around 44 degrees, and my only two options were a beat up neoprene wetsuit or a drysuit with a slow leak at the wrist seal. I picked the drysuit because staying dry sounded smarter than being cold and wet, and for the first hour it felt great. By hour three that leak had let in maybe a cup of water and it sloshed up and down my forearm with every reach. The worst part came when I tried to dump the suit later and the zipper stuck halfway, so I stood on the dock fighting it like a guy wrestling a sleeping bag. My buddy on deck just watched and offered to get the pry bar, which I almost took him up on. I still think drysuit was the right call over freezing in neoprene, but I'm open to being wrong about that. Has anyone dealt with a slow seal leak that only shows up after the first hour in the water?
