Almost got hit by a cyclist on Market Street last week - now I actually use my turn signals
Made me think, how many close calls have I caused by being lazy with my blinker?

Had a friend who nearly caused a pileup on the freeway because she was too lazy to signal a lane change lol. She figured nobody would notice, but a guy in a truck laid on his horn for a solid five seconds and she was super embarrassed. Now she signals every single time, even in empty parking lots.

Honestly I kind of get where your friend was coming from @claire_gibson, like is signaling really that big of a deal when you can clearly see nobody is around? I mean half the time people don't even pay attention to your blinker anyway, so it feels like wasted effort sometimes. Maybe the truck guy overreacted and she just got scared into doing it forever, not because it actually matters.

Signal is less about the moment and more about making it a habit so you don't forget when it actually counts. Muscle memory kicks in during real traffic chaos, and skipping it on empty roads trains your brain to be lazy. Truck guy might've been extra, but he did her a favor long-term.
