Cut 12 minutes off my drive by changing one turn

I take the 5 south through Santa Clarita every morning and the on-ramp at Lyons usually adds 10 minutes of stop-and-go. I started taking the next street over, Wiley Canyon, and it dumps me straight onto the carpool lane. Anybody else find a weird side street that somehow beats the traffic algorithm?

Just be careful because Wiley Canyon on-ramp merges into the carpool lane without a lot of room.

@uma_taylor47 makes a solid point about that merge being tight. What I haven't seen anyone mention is that the timing on the traffic light right before that on-ramp is terrible. If you catch the red at Wiley Canyon, you get a green at the same time as the cars coming from the other direction who are also trying to merge. So you're basically playing chicken with people who just got let in from the other side. That whole setup makes a bad merge even worse. I've started taking the next on-ramp down at McBean just to avoid the headache.

Know a guy who tried to time that light perfect and still almost got side swiped by a minivan that came flying out of nowhere from the other direction. He said he just sat there at the merge point honking for like 5 seconds while the other driver just stared at him. Now he refuses to even use Wiley Canyon anymore, takes the long way around just to get on at McBean like you said. Honestly I think the city knows it's bad but they just don't care enough to fix it.
