Found out my 22 minute bus ride is actually only 9 minutes of driving, and I've been wasting an hour a day
So last week my car was in the shop for a brake job and I ended up driving the same route my bus takes, and I actually timed it with the stopwatch on my phone. Door to door it was 9 minutes and 40 seconds. My bus ride on that exact same stretch is 22 minutes on a good day, and that's before the 8 minute walk to the stop. I always figured traffic and lights were eating the time but it turns out it's mostly the stops. I counted 14 of them between my place and the office, and each one costs you about 45 seconds to a minute once you factor in the doors, the people digging for their card, and pulling back into traffic. Fourteen stops times roughly a minute each is 14 minutes of pure sitting there. I'm not about to start driving in every day, parking downtown costs a fortune, but I did start getting off 3 stops early and walking the rest, and I'm getting to my desk faster than the bus would have. Does anyone know if the express version that skips the mall stops actually saves real time or is it just a nicer label on the same ride?
