Got told my bus seat saving routine was 'rude' so I changed it up completely

Some lady said I looked like a jerk holding a bag on the seat for 3 stops during rush hour on the 4 bus in Seattle. Now I just fold my coat over the seat next to me so it looks natural but still saves the spot for my friend getting on 2 stops later. Anyone else got a stealth hack for saving seats without getting the death stare?

Laughing at the coat move, that's genius. I just turn my backpack into a very obvious "taken" seat by putting my arm around it like we're old friends. Gets a few eye rolls but no one dares challenge the arm-hold friendship.

Stole that arm-hold move from you last week and honestly it felt like I was in a secret buddy comedy with my backpack. The eye rolls are worth it when you see someone circle the table three times trying to figure out if you're actually cuddling a Jansport. One guy almost asked but I just stared him down like "this is my emotional support bag, we don't talk about it." Now I'm wondering if I should start giving my backpack a name to sell the illusion better.
