I saw a guy knitting a full scarf on the L train last Thursday

He was just sitting there clicking away through two packed express stops from 59th to 14th, totally chill. Has anyone else seen something weirdly calm like that on their commute?

Wait, he managed to knit a whole scarf between 59th and 14th? That's like maybe 10 minutes tops. How fast was this guy going, did he have four hands or something? I've seen people crochet on the train before but they're usually working on something small like a beanie or a dishcloth, not a full length scarf. The fact that he kept his cool through two packed express stops is wild too, I can barely keep my balance let alone count stitches when the train jerks around.

Wait, was he using like super bulky yarn or standard worsted weight? Because there's a huge difference in how fast you can crank out a scarf depending on the yarn thickness lol. If he was using chunky yarn with big needles, that scarf could come together in like 15-20 minutes if he was really going at it, but with regular yarn it'd take way longer. I've seen speed knitters on YouTube who can do a basic knit stitch in under a second, so maybe this guy was legit just that fast lmao. But still, counting rows and keeping track of your pattern while people are shoving past you at 14th Street sounds like a nightmare honestly.

Used to knit on the express train all the time when I lived in Queens. Garter stitch is your friend, just muscle memory once you get going. The trick is finding a corner seat where you can brace your back and elbows.
