My bus pass got stuck in the fare machine for like 20 minutes

I was trying to tap on this morning and the card reader just ate my monthly pass. The driver had to radio for help, and we all just stood there while a guy came out with a special key to open the machine. It took so long I missed my usual train connection. Has anyone else had a transit machine straight up steal their ticket?

Twenty minutes is an ABSOLUTE eternity to be stuck waiting like that. The fact they needed a special key and everything just shows how locked down those machines are. Missing your train connection on top of it is the worst kind of domino effect. Public transit should not feel like a heist movie where your ticket gets taken hostage.

The special key is actually for maintenance, not to lock down the machine. It's a safety thing so random people can't open the cash box. Still a huge pain when it jams though.
