My bus pass reader glitched out at the worst time this morning
The scanner just kept beeping red when I tapped on, and the driver shrugged and said 'just go ahead'. Anyone know if the MBTA machines have been acting up lately?

The MBTA fare gates at Downtown Crossing were totally dead last Thursday, just letting everyone through. It feels like every system with a screen or a scanner is getting less reliable, not more. My building's key fob reader fails once a month. Even the self-checkout at Star Market freezes and needs a restart. We're adding more tech to fix things, but it just makes new points of failure.

Yeah but "new points of failure" is a bit much. It's just a glitch, like sarah_patel25 said about the software update. Stuff breaks sometimes, it's not like the whole system is falling apart.

The MBTA's Twitter account had a post yesterday about a software update messing with some fare gates.
