Overheard a lady on the 7am bus say she times her whole week by Google Maps predictions

She said she checks the app every morning and if it says 28 minutes she plans that exact window. Then last Thursday it jumped to 42 minutes with no warning and she missed her kid's school meeting. I never trust those numbers myself, I always add a buffer. Do you guys just go by what the map says or do you add extra time every trip?

Always add at least 10 minutes to whatever Google says, learned that the hard way when the app said 20 minutes and it turned into 45. Saved me more than a few headaches, especially during school pickup.

Wait, you're telling me I should actually DOUBLE what Google Maps says? I always thought people were just being dramatic about the time estimates but you might've just convinced me to start adding buffer time.
