Picked the express bus over the local yesterday and saved 22 minutes

I usually take the local bus from my stop near 14th street. But yesterday I saw the express pull up first and decided to try it. The express skips like 8 stops and goes straight down the highway. Got to work in 18 minutes instead of my usual 40. Only downside is the express stop is 3 blocks further from my apartment. Probably worth the walk for the extra sleep. Anyone else have a route gamble that paid off?

Hang on, you timed it and got 18 minutes vs 40? That's a pretty specific number. I mean, good for you but it's just a bus ride, not a life hack. Walking 3 extra blocks in the cold kind of eats into that time savings too. Feels a little dramatic to call it a "route gamble" like you were picking stocks or something.

Just look at the bus tracker app before you leave. That's what I do. Saves you standing out in the cold guessing. You can see exactly when the bus is coming and pick the stop that gives you the shortest wait. 18 vs 40 can be real if one bus is right around the corner and the other is stuck in traffic. I've waited 15 minutes at a stop before watching the same bus go by two blocks away.

Fair enough, but spending an extra 22 minutes on a bus adds up fast if you do it every day.
