Pro tip: The $40 insulated lunch bag that saved my commute sanity

Honestly, I got sick of spending $12 a day on downtown sandwiches, so I bought this cheap insulated bag from Target for $40. It's one of those soft zipper ones with the thick foil lining. I pack my lunch the night before now, and it stays cold for like 5 hours even on the train. Last Tuesday, I forgot it in my car during a 90 degree day and the yogurt was still chilly when I got back. Ngl, that single bag has probably saved me $200 in two months. I just wish the zipper held up better after 10 weeks of daily use. Has anyone else found a brand that lasts longer without ripping?

Yeah I had the same zipper problem with that Target one. I switched to the PackIt brand, the one with the built in gel lining that freezes overnight. It's about $35 but mine has lasted almost two years now with zero rips. The only downside is it takes up more room in the freezer than just tossing a cold pack in. But honestly, the convenience of just grabbing the whole thing and walking out the door has been huge for me.

Read somewhere that the PackIt bag is supposed to be pretty indestructible.

The built-in gel lining is a game changer honestly. I used to forget a separate ice pack half the time and that just wrecked my whole lunch. Now I just freeze the whole bag overnight and boom, cold lunch with zero effort.
