Rant: The quiet car vs the regular car is night and day
I ride the 7:15 train into the city every morning. For a year I sat in the regular car and dealt with loud phone calls and people watching videos without headphones. Last month I finally tried the quiet car by accident because my usual spot was taken. Now I won't go back. The difference is like going from a dentist drill to silence. Has anyone else made the switch and felt the same way?

Now she gets legitimately annoyed" - yeah that tracks, I read somewhere that once you get used to quiet the loud stuff feels worse.

My wife took the 6:45 train for three years before she even noticed the quiet car existed... she just assumed the whole train was loud. Now she gets legitimately annoyed if someone even crinkles a granola wrapper too loud back there. It really is a completely different world once you get used to the silence.

Morning shifts at the station are the same way for me honestly. I mean, once you've been on the quiet side of something long enough, the loud just hits different. But idk, maybe I'm weird because I actually miss the noise sometimes. The quiet car sounds nice in theory but I feel like it would make me hyper aware of every little sound and that would just stress me out more. There's something kind of nice about a train car full of people just living their lives, you know? All the muffled conversations and doors opening and closing, it's background noise that keeps my brain from overthinking.
