That driver on the 405 honking at cyclists made me rethink my whole route

I was stuck in traffic on the 405 near Culver City and some guy in a pickup kept leaning on his horn at a cyclist on the shoulder. I used to always drive that way because it's faster, but that moment made me switch to taking the side streets. Has anyone else changed their commute after seeing something sketchy like that?

Down here in Orange County I see it all the time on the 5. People just don't realize a cyclist on the shoulder is trying to stay safe and get where they're going. It's frustrating how a little patience can save a lot of trouble.

Had a buddy get clipped on his road bike out near San Clemente last year. Some guy in a Prius swerved into the shoulder to pass a slow moving truck, didn't even look, and sent my friend flying into the dirt. Broke his collarbone and totaled a two thousand dollar bike all because someone couldn't wait ten seconds. He still rides but now he keeps a GoPro on his helmet, you know, just in case.
