The debate: is the 'leave 3 car lengths' advice actually dangerous?

I've been commuting for 12 years now and I swear by that rule, but only on the interstate. In stop-and-go traffic downtown, it's a magnet for aggressive drivers. Anyone else feel like this advice is situational at best?

It's like that rule about leaving space only works when everyone else follows it too, but the second someone's in a hurry they treat it like an invitation to cut you off lol. Really makes you wonder if common sense is just a myth at this point tbh.

Think thats just how most things work now - people take any kindness as weakness and use it to their advantage instead of paying it forward.
