The guy next to me on the 7:15 train was reading his own performance review out loud
I was half asleep on the 7:15 into Penn Station when this dude next to me just starts muttering. He's reading a printout of his own performance review, saying stuff like 'they said I need to collaborate more.' Then he literally said 'I will not collaborate, I am right about everything.' I almost choked on my coffee. Made me think about how many people just refuse to adapt to feedback at work. Has anyone else overheard something that showed you how a coworker really thinks?

Put the review down and @lucasschmidt, walk away before HR finds out.

Wait, he actually said "I will not collaborate" out loud on a train? That's just about the most honest thing I've ever heard someone admit about themselves.

I mean honestly people are taking this way too seriously. The guy was probably just being sarcastic or venting steam, not literally declaring war on his manager. Everyone says dumb stuff when they're annoyed, who hasn't muttered something dramatic about their job? Plus performance reviews are usually full of vague corporate nonsense anyway, so who cares if he pushed back on 'collaborate more.' The real problem is that we're all supposed to pretend feedback is always right and useful, but half the time it's just someone's opinion. Let the guy have his moment on the train, it's not that deep.
