The wasted cash on that fancy dash cam setup still stings
I spent about 120 bucks on a dual camera dash cam system back in March thinking it would pay off. Last week I realized the rear camera hadn't been recording for 2 months because of a loose wire I never checked. I missed a guy rear ending someone right behind me in Portland traffic. Anyone else had a pricey gadget fail because you skipped the setup steps?

Wait, did you have to pull the trim or anything to check the wire? That sucks about missing the rear ender though. I totally get it, I bought a fancy weather station last summer for like 150 bucks, one of those with the outdoor sensor and everything. I set it up on my back porch, felt all smart. Turns out I never fully screwed the rain gauge cup on tight enough, so it just sat there collecting spider webs while the display showed "0.00" for three straight weeks of actual rain. By the time I figured it out (took me staring at it during a downpour and noticing the cup was sideways), the whole thing was kinda useless for that whole month of data. Made me feel like I wasted my money for nothing, just like your camera.

The rain gauge spider web thing is brutal @the_jennifer. I had almost the same thing happen with a soil moisture sensor I bought for my garden. I spent like 80 bucks on it, stuck it in the ground, and watched it read "bone dry" for a month straight even after heavy rain. Realized the little plastic cap on the probe was still on it from the factory. Felt like an idiot when I pulled it out and saw it. That whole month of data just gone, I know that feeling completely.

tbh i mean is it really that big of a deal though? like yeah 120 bucks stings but you still have a working front cam and you probably wouldve just watched that rear ender footage once and then never looked at it again. i bought a 60 dollar single cam a few years ago and realized after a year the lens was just pointed at my dashboard the whole time because i bumped it putting groceries in. never bothered me that much.
