Tried listening to audiobooks during my 45-minute bus ride into Portland...

I wanted to be productive like everyone says, but after 3 days I realized I missed zoning out and watching the neighborhoods change. Now I just put on lo-fi music and actually enjoy the ride. Has anyone else ditched the "self improvement" commute pressure?

Honestly, I read somewhere that your brain actually needs those "boring" moments to reset and process stuff. It's not wasted time if you're just staring out the window, you know? I tried audiobooks too but ended up missing the little things like seeing what people are wearing or noticing which trees are changing color first. Ngl, I think the whole "optimize every second" thing is just gonna burn people out faster. Tbh, I'd rather show up to work relaxed and happy than having finished two chapters of some dense business book.

Oh man, I get what you're saying but I gotta push back a little. So if audiobooks help your brain stop spinning, isn't that actually a good reset in its own way? Like, staring out the window works for some people, but for others the quiet just makes the anxiety LOUDER. I don't think the goal is to optimize every second, it's just finding something that keeps you from falling into the dark hole in your head. What makes you so sure that zoning out is better than having a story to follow?
