A customer chewed me out for reinstalling Windows instead of "just fixing it" and I think he was right
Last Tuesday I had a guy bring in a 2019 Dell with what he described as "slow and weird popups." I did the wipe and reload like I always do, charged him $140, and he came back two days later mad because his bookkeeping software needed a phone call to reactivate and his printer profiles were gone. He said something that stuck with me: "You didn't fix my computer, you erased my life." I've been running the nuke and pave playbook for 8 years because it's fast and predictable, but it costs the customer hours of setup time they didn't agree to. Now I image the drive first and try a cleanup plus malware sweep before I even suggest a reload. I mean, a reload is easy for me and expensive for them. How do you all decide when a wipe is actually the right call versus just the lazy one?

Wiping should be the last resort, not step one.
