Debated between a desktop and a laptop for field work, went with a toughbook

Back in 2018 I had to decide between a gaming laptop or a refurbished Panasonic Toughbook for doing on-site repairs. I went with the Toughbook after a buddy swore by it, and honestly it's been through two drops and a spilled coffee without a scratch. The only downside is it's heavy as hell to lug around, but it boots faster than some newer machines I work on. Has anyone else stuck with older hardware for the reliability factor?

Fair enough but it's just a laptop, not like you're defusing bombs with it.

I mean, defusing a bomb would be way less stressful than losing all your field data because a regular laptop froze.

Have you considered how a Toughbook handles in extreme temperatures though? I remember reading some field geologists swear by them because they don't crap out in direct sunlight or freezing cold like a regular laptop does. The chassis dissipates heat way better than plastic cases too. I think that's a big deal for outdoor work that most people don't think about.
