Hot take: Always swapping power supplies first was my mistake

I used to blame the power supply anytime a computer did not start. Last month, a customer brought in a dead desktop, and I quickly swapped the PSU without looking. It still would not power on, which was frustrating. I then noticed the main power cable was not fully plugged into the board. That loose connection was the real problem all along. Now I check all cables before replacing parts. It makes fixes faster and stops wasted trips for new gear.

You ever jump to replace the power supply without checking cables? I was the same, always thinking it was the PSU first. After I swapped one out and still had issues, I found the motherboard cable was barely plugged in. Now I start with a full cable check, and it saves so much hassle.

My buddy was so sure his new gaming rig had a bad power supply when it wouldn't turn on. He ordered a whole new unit and swapped it in, still dead. Turns out he was so focused on the big cables he never pushed the tiny front panel power connector all the way down on the motherboard pins. Felt pretty silly when a two second press fixed it.

Damn, how often does that tiny connector cause issues?
