I finally chose between a Mac Mini and a custom PC build for my shop bench

Been putting this off for months but last week I had to pick a system for my repair bench at work. Went with the Mac Mini M4 base model for $599 because I'm tired of fighting driver issues with my diagnostic tools on Windows. So far it's been solid but I miss being able to swap out RAM when a client brings in some weird old drive. Anyone else run into compatibility headaches after switching platforms mid-job?

Wait is this really a huge deal? I swap platforms all the time for specific jobs and just deal with the quirks. Driver headaches on Windows are annoying sure but that M4 has its own limitations too. Like you said missing ram swaps or even just plugging in some oddball usb device that needs a proper driver stack. Seems like trading one set of problems for another to me.

Did a buddy of yours make the same switch?

You know, it actually was my neighbor who pushed me to try it. He'd been raving about how much smoother things went for him after switching, and I figured why not give it a shot. I started small, just testing it out on one of my projects to see if it really made a difference. And honestly, it kind of clicked for me after that first week. The whole process felt less clunky, like I wasn't fighting the setup anymore. Sometimes you just gotta hear it from someone you trust before you take that leap yourself, right?
