I was team tower case for 15 years but switched to a horizontal build

A client brought in a rackmount server that had been running for 7 years without a single dust issue thanks to positive pressure. I built my home rig into a horizontal case last month and my temps dropped 12 degrees. Anyone else make the switch and regret it or am I just late to the party?

Made the same swap about 6 months ago with a Silverstone GD09. My old Corsair tower had decent airflow but the horizontal case just works better for my space. I mounted it with the intake facing a wall vent and the GPU temps went from 78 to 65 under load. The real win for me was how much easier it was to route cables and swap drives without pulling the whole thing apart. Only thing I miss is the vertical GPU look but I'd take the lower temps over that any day.

Jumping from a tower to horizontal dropped your temps 12 degrees? Sounds like your tower had zero airflow.

Yeah that positive pressure thing is no joke. I'm with you on the temps too. I swapped my old Phanteks tower for a Fractal horizontal case and my 3080 dropped from 82 to 71 under load. @leo_fisher I get what you're saying but most vertical towers have garbage intake paths through the front panel these days. The horizontal case lets me run two 140mm intakes right under the GPU with zero restriction. Ran my system for 3 months straight now and the dust buildup is basically nothing compared to what I had to clean out every two weeks before.
