Just fixed a weird boot loop on a Dell Optiplex 5060 by clearing the Intel ME firmware, something I'd never tried before.
Customer brought it in, said it was stuck restarting after a Windows update. Tried the usual: safe mode, last known good config, even a clean install attempt from USB. Nothing worked. Saw a single blink code from the power LED, looked it up in the service manual and it pointed to the Management Engine. Used the Intel ME System Tools v12 from a bootable DOS USB to force a clean re-flash of that firmware. Booted right up after that. Has anyone else had to deal with Intel ME causing a hard lock like this? What's your go-to fix?

Honestly, that seems like a massive overreaction. Most of the time a boot loop is just a bad driver or corrupted Windows files. Jumping straight to messing with the ME firmware is a huge risk, you could brick the board completely. I would have tried pulling the CMOS battery for a good while first, or even reseating the CPU. That fix is way too extreme for a common post-update issue.

My cousin's laptop did this exact thing last month after a Windows update. It's like people see a problem and immediately go for the most complex fix they can find online. I notice this everywhere now, from car repair forums to home improvement groups. Everyone wants to skip the basic steps and jump straight to the nuclear option, then act surprised when they make things worse. It's a weird flex that just wastes time and money.

Yeah but is it really that weird? People see a laptop stuck in a loop and panic, they just want their stuff working. The nuclear option looks like the sure fix when you're stressed. Maybe they just don't know the basic steps are worth trying first.
