My old boss in Tampa told me to always replace the whole motherboard on a power surge, but that's just lazy.

Reminds me of a buddy who fried his whole gaming rig from a bad power strip. We spent a weekend testing each part, and it turned out only the RAM and power supply got zapped. The motherboard was totally fine, which felt like a huge win.

That "huge win" feeling when the motherboard survives is so real, @emery_black. It's like finding money in an old pair of jeans after thinking you lost your whole wallet. I've been there with a similar power surge mess, and the relief when the big ticket item is okay is just the best. Makes that whole weekend of testing feel worth it, even if you still have to replace some parts.

That Tampa boss would have made you buy a whole new car if you got a flat tire. Honestly, just swapping the whole board is the tech version of using a sledgehammer to hang a picture.
